God’s work never stops. Churchwide office staff are still hard at work – from our homes. Hours and lines of communication remain the same.

U.S. Wildfires

The Situation:
In 2018, multiple fires raged in California, devastating communities and almost wiping out the city of Paradise. The Camp Fire was the most deadly and destructive fire in California history, leaving thousands of people displaced, many with no plan to return. Thanks to your generosity, Lutheran Disaster Response has been able to help communities impacted by these fires with crucial support — from emergency relief supplies to long-term recovery to emotional and spiritual care.

Our Response:
In collaboration with Lutheran Social Services of Northern California, we provided relief assistance for survivors of the Carr Fire in Shasta County and the Camp Fire in Brute County immediately after the fires. Similarly, we supported Lutheran Social Services of Southern California in their efforts to provide relief for survivors of the Woolsey Fire in the Ventura and Los Angeles Counties. Since then, our work in Shasta County has been expanded to include assisting survivors with emotional and spiritual care and supporting survivors as they rebuild their destroyed homes. In Ventura and Los Angeles Counties, Lutheran Social Services of Southern California has been providing disaster case management services, emotional and spiritual care as well as building counseling services to survivors. Our accompaniment of fire survivors in Southern California is far from over.

What you can do:
Please pray for the communities that are in the paths of wildfires in California. May God's healing presence give them peace and hope in their time of need. Pray that God will deliver comfort to those who mourn and strength to those who are working diligently to contain the fires and care for affected communities.

Gifts to "U.S. Wildfires" will be used in full (100%) to assist those affected by wildfires until the response is complete.
